Classic Mercedes camper with motorcycle carrier in Godalming, Surrey for sale

Classic Mercedes camper with motorcycle carrier

1982 Mercedes 307D coachbuilt camper with valuable extras. Fitted with a full size motorcycle carrier, this van would suit a track day enthusiast or club racer. I took my old AJS round Europe for three years on this rack. It comes complete with ramp, tie downs, locks etc. It has a seven speaker stereo with a 12 inch Sony sub and amp. A really nice system. It has a Gaslow LPG system for the heater, fridge etc. This means no more gas bottles, and no running out of gas. You simply fill up from the LPG pump wherever you are - except Spain, where they don’t have LPG. It has a large awning. The van is in very good order, inside and out. I have owned it for five years and my maintenance standards are high. I’ve spent much of the last few years touring and living in the van in Europe. It proved itself to be extremely reliable and comfortable. It has been serviced, has new tyres on the back and good tyres on the front. It has recently had new discs, pads and callipers. In recent times it has had a new exhaust, radiator, wheel bearings, reconditioned prop shaft, and many other new parts I’ve forgotten about. I have a record of all the work I have done on the van. It has covered 211,000 miles, but these old Merc commercials were built to last forever. The engineering is simple and strong - very different to a modern Mercedes van. Unfortunately rust killed most 307Ds. It was MOTed in December, has covered few miles since, and is ready for long distance touring straight away. The interior is big, with a generous living area at the rear. It is trimmed in linen and the fittings are wonderfully plain. It’s tasteful! There is a full sized double bed over the cab with a memory foam mattress. This is dangerously comfortable. The living area rearranges into another double bed. There is a great deal of cupboard and storage space. The lighting is all LED. There is a cooker, but no oven. There is a gas water heater and a space heater. I have stayed in the van at minus 10, and survived. There is a three way fridge and a chemical loo and a shower which works well. There are tailored thermal blinds for the cab, hook up leads, and a trolley jack and wheel brace. It has battery isolators, and started first time after a winter in storage. The van’s bad points are a lack of power steering - you can build muscle while manoeuvring, and it isn’t very fast. It cruises at 50 - 55, and is slow up hills, but it gets you there. Lack of pace aside, it drives very nicely. You will be hard pushed to find another van of this era that is absolutely ready for long distance, long term travel. It will be an emotional parting, but after four years of travel I want to go home. I’m afraid the furs, cushions, tin trunks etc don’t come with the van. But the nice registration does. The van can be viewed in Godalming, Surrey.
